Assegnati nella notte i massimi riconoscimenti cinematografici nel campo dell’animazione: gli Annie Awards che ogni anno vengono attribuiti alle migliori produzioni cinematografiche legate al fantastico mondo animato.
Con l’introduzione della categoria miglior film d’animazione agli Oscar, gli Annie sono passati in secondo piano diventando una sorta di anteprima degli Academy Awards, dato che puntualmente il vincitore diventa uno dei favoriti agli Oscar nella medesima categoria.
Infatti nella storia degli Annie Awards il vincitore della categoria miglior film d’animazione quasi sempre conquista l’Oscar. Considerando che la categoria del miglior film d’animazione è stata introdotta dagli Academy nel 2002, su 14 edizioni ben 10 volte il verdetto degli Annie è stato confermato agli Oscar: Shrek, La città incantata, Alla ricerca di Nemo, Gli incredibili, Wallace e Gromit-La maledizione del coniglio mannaro, Ratatouille, Up, Rango, Frozen, Inside Out.
Quest’anno il film che ha conquistato il maggior numero di premi è stato Zootropolis (che partiva con 11 nomination) vincendo 6 premi: miglior film d’animazione, miglior regia, miglior sceneggiatura, best voice acting (Jason Bateman), best character design, best storyboarding. Verdetto che fa ben sperare in vista degli Oscar e dei BAFTA. Attualmente il film ha collezionato 16 riconoscimenti importanti come il Golden Globe, il Critics’ Choice Movie Award, l’Hollywood Film Award, il Toronto Film Critics Award, il New York Film Critics Award e convinto i critici del Kansas, del North Carolina, del North Texas, del Southeastern, di Dallas, di St.Louis, di Phoenix, dell’Oklahoma, di Seattle, di Georgia, di Denver.
