Annunciate le candidature ai British Independent Film Awards 2019, i riconoscimenti cinematografici che ogni anno celebrano i migliori talenti del cinema indipendente britannico
Nella storia dei BIFA, giunto alla sua 22 esima edizione, soltano 2 volte il vincitore del Miglior Film ha vinto poi anche l’Oscar come miglior pellicola dell’anno: nel 2008 The Millionaire, nel 2009 Il discorso del Re. Di conseguenza anche se la convergenza tra i due premi è decisamente bassa, le nomination ai British Independent Film Awards assumono comunque un ruolo significativo perchè ci consentono di aprire un’altra finestra sull’Award Season recentemente inaugurata dalle nomination ai Gotham Awards e dai verdetti degli Hollywood Film Awards.
Su questa lunghezza d’onda occorre ricordare che nella scorsa edizione dei BIFA The Favourite di Yorgos Lanthimos ha ottenuto ben 10 premi per poi conquistare 10 nomination agli Oscar vincendo nella categoria miglior attrice (Olivia Colman). Inoltre la pluripremiata pellicola di Alfonso Cuaron, Roma, vincitrice poi di 3 Oscar, ha conquistato il BIFA per il miglior film internazionale, superando pellicole come Cafarnao, Cold War e Un affare di famiglia, tutte successivamente candidate agli Oscar nella categoria che nell’edizione passata si chiamava ancora Miglior film straniero.
Quest’anno la pellicola che ha conquistato il maggior numero di nominations è l’adattamento cinematografico di Armando Iannucci, La storia personale di David Copperfield, già presentato con successo all’ultimo Toronto International Film Festival dove ha ottenuto il plauso della critica. Sono ben 11 le nominations ottenute: miglior film, miglior adattamento, miglior attore (Dev Patel), miglior attrice non prrotagonista (Tilda Swinton), miglior attore non protagonista (Hugh Laurie), miglior casting director, miglior costumi, miglior fotografia, miglior montaggio, miglior trucco e parrucco, miglior scenografia.
Seguono le 10 nominations conquistate dal film scozzese rivelazione dell’anno Wild Rose di Tom Harper con protagonista Jessie Buckley che proprio l’anno scorso vinse il BIFA come miglior attrice rivelazione per il film Beast. La pellicola ha già al suo attivo 2 nomination ai BAFTA Awards (Scotland): miglior film e miglior attrice. Con 9 candidature si fa notare In Fabric di Peter Strickland e con 8 il bellissimo The Souvenir di Joanna Hogg.
Senza dimenticare le 5 nomination conquistate dal biopic Judy che vede Renée Zellweger favoritissima nella categoria miglior attrice protagonista. Mentre è testa a testa nella categoria miglior attore tra Tom Burke per The Souvenir e il candidato all’Oscar Dev Patel per La storia personale di David Copperfield.
Tra i candidati al Miglior film internazionale indipendente spiccano 2 pellicole in corsa agli Oscar nella categoria miglior film Internazionale: il favoritissimo Parasite di Bong Joon – ho e il colombiano Monos recentemente vincitore del London Film Festival. Tra gli altri nominati di questa categoia spicca l’americano Marriage Story di Noah Baumbach che ha recentemente conquistato 3 nominations ai Gotham Awards.
