Annunciate le candidature ai Gotham Film Awards, i riconoscimenti che fino allo scorso anno inauguravano parzialmente l’Awards Season perché dedicati solo alle pellicole indipendenti e che invece da quest’anno sono destinati a tutti i film senza limiti di budget.
Di conseguenza i nuovi Gotham possono avere un impatto maggiore sulla Stagione dei premi anche se nella storia di questo riconoscimento su ben 19 edizioni in cui si assegnava il premio per il miglior lungometraggio: 12 volte il vincitore del Miglior film ha ottenuto la candidatura all’Oscar nella categoria principale (Sideways, Truman Capote: A sangue freddo, The Hurt Locker, Un gelido inverno, The Tree of Life, Birdman, Spotlight, Moonlight, Chiamami col tuo nome, Nomadland, La figlia oscura, TAR) e 5 volte ha conquistato anche l’ambita statuetta: The Hurt Locker (2009), Birdman (2013), Spotlight (2015), Moonlight (2016), Nomadland (2020).

Tra i premi speciali già annunciati spiccano: il Cultural Icon & Creator Tribute assegnato a Maestro di Bradley Cooper, l’Icon & Creator Tribute for Social Justice assegnato a Rustin di George C. Wolfe e il Visionary Icon & Creator Tribute assegnato a Air – La storia del grande salto di Ben Affleck.
