Independent Spirit Awards 2017, American Honey conquista 6 nominations

Annunciate le nominations agli Independent Spirit Awards, i riconoscimenti cinematografici che dal 1986 mirano a promuovere e a sostenere il cinema indipendente.

L’anno scorso 4 premi principali assegnati durante la cerimonia tra cui miglior film e miglior sceneggiatura (Il caso Spotlight) miglior attrice (Brie Larson-Room) e miglior film straniero (Il figlio di Saul) sono stati poi confermati agli Oscar, che solitamente si svolgono il giorno successivo alla premiazione degli Independent Spirit Awards.

Nella storia del premio 5 volte il miglior film ha poi vinto anche l’Oscar nella medesima categoria: Platoon (1987), The Artist (2012), 12 anni schiavo (2014), Birdman (2015) e Il caso Spotilight (2016), con una forte concentrazione di pellicole indipendenti tra le nomination degli Academy Awards, spia del mutamento dei tempi e di come il cinema indipendente riesca a raccontare con maggior consapevolezza ed empatia le trasformazioni della nostra società.

Tra i nominati spicca American Honey che supera di una sola nomination i due favoriti della vigilia Manchester by the Sea e Moonlight.

Il primo film (American Honey), già vincitore del Premio della Giuria all’ultimo Festival di Cannes, ha conquistato il maggior numero di nominations (6) tra cui miglior film, miglior regia (Andrea Arnold), miglior fotografia, miglior attrice (Sasha Lane), miglior attrice non protagonista (Riley Keough) e miglior attore non protagonista (Shia LaBeouf). Tenendo bene a mente che aveva già conquistato 6 nominations ai British Independent Film Awards.

5 nominations per Moonlight tra cui miglior film, miglior regia (Barry Jenkins), miglior sceneggiatura, miglior fotografia e miglior montaggio. Sorprende l’esclusione dei due supporter (Maershala Ali e Naomie Harris) dati favoriti per gli Oscar 2017 nelle categorie miglior attore e attrice non protagonisti. Inoltre il film scelto per aprire la Festa del Cinema di Roma di quest’anno, ha già all’attivo 3 nominations ai Gotham Independent Film Awards.

Anche Manchester by the Sea ha conquistato 5 nominations tra cui miglior film, miglior sceneggiatura, miglior montaggio, miglior attore (Casey Affleck) e miglior attore non protagonista (Lucas Hedges). Sorpresa per l’esclusione di Michelle Williams nella categoria supporter femminile come pure Kenneth Lonergan nella categoria best director. Il film ha già conquistato l’Hollywood Film Awards per la miglior sceneggiatura.

Tra gli altri candidati, degne di nota sono le 4 nominations conquistate da Jackie di Pablo Larrain (miglior film, miglior regia, miglior montaggio e miglior attrice (Natalie Portman) e le 2 nomination (ne meritava qualcuna in più) per Loving (miglior regia e miglior attrice (Ruth Negga)
