Annunciate le candidature ai Satellite Awards, i riconoscimenti assegnati da 200 giornalisti di settore appartenenti alla prestigiosa International Press Academy (IPA). Nel corso degli anni le loro scelte si sono rivelate una risorsa preziosa per l’Awards Season dato che questo premio, fondato nel 1997, raccoglie i voti della stampa internazionale ad Hollywood, essendo nato da una “costola” dei Golden Globe. Per questo motivo in origine erano conosciuti con il nome di Golden Satellite Awards.
Anche se la convergenza tra i verdetti dei Satellite Awards e quelli degli Oscar è decisamente ridotta, dato che su 27 edizioni (1996-2023) solo 11 volte il vincitore del premio per il Miglior film ha vinto anche l’ambita statuetta (Titanic, Shakespeare in Love, The Departed, Non è un paese per vecchi, The Millionaire, The Hurt Locker, 12 anni schiavo, Birdman, Spotlight, Nomadland, Everything Everywhere All At Once), le loro scelte ci permettono di capire quali film si confermano in lizza per gli Oscar.
